Updating your PC Operating System (Chrome or Windows)
Maintaining an up-to-date operating system is critical to ensuring optimal device performance and security. Regular updates safeguard your system against evolving cyber threats while supporting overall functionality.
When troubleshooting IT issues, anywhere from internet loss to general lag, updating your device is one of the best first action steps to take.
Scroll paste the Chrome OS section for Windows OS
Click Launcher (Black Circle or G icon) on the bottom left of the screen
Click the Settings app (or type Settings into search, if you don’t see it)
On the left side, click About ChromeOS
Click Check for updates
If there are updates, they will first prepare the updates, and then a Restart button will appear. Click Restart.
If there are no updates, it will say “Your device is up to date”
After restarting for the update, keep repeating the steps and Check for updates again until there are no more updates available.
In addition to performing a Windows Update, you also need to always perform the Optional Updates, which steps are provided below.
Click Start (Blue square icon) on the bottom left of the screen
Click the Settings app (or type Settings into the search, if you don’t see it)
On the left side, click Windows Update
Click Download & install all (it may say Check for updates)
After they download, then the Restart option will appear. Click Restart.
After the main updates complete, we need to do all the optional updates.
Click Advanced options, then Optional Updates
Select Driver Updates (X), and select each option
Click Download & install all
After they download, then the Restart option will appear. Click Restart.
